¬°Road Ranger Cowboy on WNYC!

The American Composers Orchestra performed “Road Ranger Cowboy” on Saturday at the Wintergarden at the World Financial Center in New York City, with George Manahan conducting. You can listen to the live recording or read the review.

While in New York, I also got to work with 30 7th grade string students at MS 54, Booker T. Washington Middle School on a new group composition called “The Drop,” lose my cell phone on the subway but get it back from a stranger 3 days later (thank you Nancy!), see a huge protest marching through the city from a 16th floor hotel window, hang with several old friends including a dog, eat Peruvian food, and take part in the first ever Rhymes With Opera Salon. It was a blast!

KETAMYTH “do I dare disturb the universe?”

“You who declare that beasts sob in their sleep
That the sick despair, that the dead have bad dreams
Try to relate my fall and my sleep”
-Rimbaud, from Mvt IIIb

“burning, it’s burning…”
from Mvt. III

“Do I dare disturb the universe?
In a minute there’s time for decisions and revisions
Which a minute will reverse
There will be time to murder and create
And time for all the works and days
of hands that lift and drop a question on your plate”
-T.S. Eliot, from Mvt. II

West End String Quartet, How I Love Thee

The West End String Quartet from Hartford, CT toured my piece “being for the breakdown” around to four different spaces in June, on the Rhymes With Opera tour. Here they are playing at Real Art Ways in Hartford. I dug this space a lot! The folks there were awesome hosts and the space itself reminded me a lot of my alltime favorite art gallery, MASS MoCA. Thanks again to Sarah, Ruth, John and Carlynn.

Songs Feat. the Talented Ms. Lander

Thanks to super-stars Bonnie Lander, David Smooke, Courtney Orlando, Michael Shank and Rob Parrish for rocking two of my songs a few weeks ago at a double-bill show with Three Red Crowns at An Die Musik in Baltimore! And thanks also to hostess with the mostess Anna Meadors who I’m pretty sure can now call David “David” and not “Dr Smooke.”
